In the summer of 2021, the Pfeifer Group will receive two Goldeneye 900 cross-feed board scanners from Microtec at its Lauterbach site. "This investment is in line with the digitization and automation offensive in the quality area that has been underway for some time. Already installed scanners run stabily in our production environment and the obtained database provides the resilient basis for quality settings to meet the customer's order. In addition, this allows an increase in performance in the productions while at the same time relieving our employees," says CTO and owner Clemens Pfeifer, shedding light on the purchase decision.
The North and South Tyrolean companies Pfeifer and Microtec have been working closely together for years - from Logeye 301D log scanner to Goldeneye scanners in longitudinal and transverse transport, numerous Microtec solutions can be found at almost all Pfeifer locations. Only at the beginning of the year, a Goldeneye 900 of the latest generation was installed in Kundl.
The latest investment will replace the existing Wanescan edge scanners in order to better meet the challenges that the market brings. "With increasingly poorer wood qualities, the demands on grading continue to increase. In combination with high cycle rates, this can no longer be achieved by one operator," knows Sales Account Manager Axel Creuzberger and adds that the scanners planned in Lauterbach will use artificial algorithms in addition to the latest configuration in order to provide the necessary detection performance. Due to the Corona pandemic, the entire planning and sales process has been digitalized.
A challenge will be the installation during the very tight summer revision. Within two weeks, Microtec will adjust the mechanics and install the two scanners so that production can start on schedule. "This is only possible because of the great experience we have gained in the field of individual scanner installation over the past decades," concludes Creuzberger.
