HCB Südtirol Alperia had a perfect start into the Champions Hockey League. The „Foxes“ celebrated two big wins against Skellefteå AIK (4:3/SO) and IFK Helsinki (4:1) and are leading in group C. The Italians will continue the Championship with the re-matches in Finnland (Thu) and Sweden (Sat).
The key winning the home-games was a strong team-performance and goalie Leland Irving with a save percentage of 97.0
„To succeed again, everybody has to be concentrated and we aren‘t allowed to make unnecessary mistakes as well. Because we know, they play strong at home“, reported the net-minder.
HC Bolzano has written an ice hockey fairy tale this year. Almost until half of the season, the 19-time Italian champion was in the last place in the multinational championship EBEL. Then began an incredible catch-up. In the playoffs, the white-reds outgrew themselves...
First, HCB beat Austria's record champion Klagenfurt AC. In the semifinals, the champion and regular season winner Vienna Capitals was eliminated and in the final, the HCB even managed against the Red Bulls Salzburg the unbelievable: after seven games stood with the HC Bolzano a historic EBEL champion.
Never in the history of the EBEL had the eighth in the league won the title.
HC Bolzano has been able to celebrate many great successes in the past: 19 Italian Championship titles, 3 Cup victories, 4 Supercup victories, Champions of the Alpine League in 1994 and winner of the Six Nations Tournament (with former NHL superstar Jaromir Jagr). In addition, the HCB already won the championship title in 2014 during its first EBEL participation as the first foreign club ever.
