Aug 22-25, World Conference on Timber Engineering 2016 with Federico Giudiceandrea guest speaker

07 2016

Technical University of Vienna

The conference is the most prestigious international event in timber engineering, engineered wood products and design of timber structures, which is held biennially in different parts of the world and attracts researchers, engineers and architects, code consultants and building officials, contractors and project managers, fabricators and suppliers from all continents.

WCTE 2016 is organized by Vienna University of Technology which was founded in 1815 and is one of the leading technical universities in Europe. The different scientific backgrounds of the involved Faculties of Architecture & Planning and Civil Engineering will generate great synergies in combining engineering and architecture. This will also be reflected in the conference program, which places great efforts in linking timber engineering, wood based industries, architecture, and the building sector in general.

Microtec company is also participating, represented by its CEO Federico Giudiceandrea, Enrico Ursella and Andreas Rais. They will give a lecture on August 22 at 1:30 pm entitled "Increasing the value of strength graded timber by industrial computer tomography".

Computed tomography (CT) scanning has the potential to improve monetary outcome of logs and meets the increasing demands of wood industry for detailed information on timber quality prior to processing. The speakers will represent a study performed on Microtec's industrial scanner CT Log, with the outcome sawmill owners can save money with this scanner, since logs can be processed in a better way to final products with increased added value.
