Edging with precision

"We are very satisfied with the precise measurement and flexibility of the Optiedge. With the high quality of the generated products, we are able to keep the standard up", says Werner Oberhofer.

Very precise wane measurement with the snapshot method - edging & rip optimization directly on the alignment table prevents positioning errors

Oberhofer Holzindustrie sawmill in South Tyrol, Italy, cuts the best quality possible out of conifer wood with a Primultini bandsaw. Up to 8,000 cubic meters per year are trimmed to window-, construction and packaging components as well as planing products for their own further processing.

Flawless edging

For the further edging of the boards, Oberhofer sawmill invested in a new edging & rip saw together with Microtec Optiedge Edger Optimizer. Since January, a new BFB edger with a Microtec optimization is in action. "It is the best edging solution available on the market", says Werner Oberhofer, adressing the extremely precise measurement and optimization system. Microtec Crometic cameras reveal the wane along the lumber taking a snapshot by turns. LED illumination from one side at a time display a shadow line along the wane area, capturing it precisely to the millimeter.

Board already fixed
The measurement is carried out only after the board has been centered, directly on the alginment table and the board is aligned according to the optimization. The huge benefit: the board has been already fixed during measurement and is passing the saw without movement. This prevents from inevitable positioning errors which come with the standard alignment procedures.

Optimization directly on the alignment table

Thanks to latest cameras, the operator sees a clear color frame of the board, as well as the course of the cutting lines of the optimized final product, basing on preset rules. Also the cross cut is virtually simulated.

Satisfying results

"Optiedge enables trimming precise to the millimeter. The result is awesome," confirms Werner Oberhofer.

No more positioning errors

Since the board is aligned according to the optimization directly on the infeed table, it is already fixed and passes through the saw without movements.

Multiple rip cut

The optimization may select multiple products to cut out from a piece of lumber according the saw capabilities and the priority assigned to the single boards.
