Logeye provides higher yield

“We are already aware of important increases in added value and recovery, due to Microtec’s reliable measurements”, and We were impressed by the fact that the technicians from Microtec are highly motivated to understand the customer’s production needs and act as professionals. We really believe that choosing Microtec technology was the right step and pays off for our future production,” explains Johan Gyllengahm, production manager at Sandåsa.

In 2016 Sandåsa Timber AB upgrades the log yard with Microtec technology installing a Logeye 301 for the log sorting right at the log yard and with the sorting optimizer software Winlog. The multi sensor scanner detects all geometrical and optical log characteristics for a reliable breakdown. The data from the 3D measurement system is transferred to Winlog, for automatic sorting optimization in real time, according to the customer’s specific criteria.

The scanner takes advantage of 3D laser triangulation to determine the (outer) log shape. The advanced laser triangulation – first designed and developed by Microtec – continues unbeaten accuracy and performance in the global wood working industry. Based on these data the log scanner derives log dimensions like diameter and length as well as geometrical qualities (UBF). The installed Microtec scanning type is approved by VMK/VMU for length, diameter, volume, crook (UBF).

The software Winlog offers an all-encompassing control suite for log sorting that guarantees an optimal use of the log yard in Åkers Styckebruk. Winlog provides the possibility to define models and threshold values for each log class considering the geometry, quality, species and other customers’ specific criteria. For the sawmill in Åkers Styckebruk, Winlog combines and manages the measurement data received from Logeye (diameter, length, UBF etc.), the manual grading information from the operator and general data like supplier.

Log sorting optimizer

Winlog is able to gather measuring data over the entire production cycle, to analyze its efficiency, to automate and streamline production processes and to create reports and databases.

Screenlog Quality Color Scanner

Screenlog captures images of the logs and saves them to file for transparent log procurement and follow-up.

Logyard at Akers Styckebruk

The trees, from which the logs are cut out, grow around the region. In total, the volume of spruce and pine logs transported to Akers Styckebruk and Forssjö Mill is of about 450.000 m3 per year.

Wood with a long tradition

The family owned company Sandåsa Timber AB has been founded in 1920. Today the company occupies a 115 people on three production sites.
